Is Email Marketing Dead

5 Mind-Blowing Reasons Email Marketing Isn’t Dead

In the age of social media, one of the questions our clients most often ask: “Is email marketing still successful?”

The answer is a YES!

Here are 5 mind-blowing facts that will prove that email marketing is not dead.

#1: 74 Trillion Emails Sent Every Year And Climbing

Fact number one, email isn’t going anywhere. At least not for now.

Human beings send more than 74 trillion emails every year – and that number is growing exponentially! We even saw an increase of 1.8 million more emails sent in 2017 than in 2016 according to the Communicator Email Benchmark Report of 2017.

In 2018 we’re seeing even higher numbers already via the Radicati Group Email Statistics Report. We are seeing a total of 281 billion emails per day, with an expected 3.8 billion email users by the end of 2018. In just five more years, projections show 333 billion emails sent.

#2: Email Is Still Used Heavily By Millenials

In order to grow it’s import to look at the trends of the next generation. Knowing how they think and communicate is key to reaching your future audience.

Even though messaging apps like Telegram, Messenger and Slack are hugely popular, 78% of teenagers use email according to Adestra. Not only are millenials using email, they consider it a fact of every day life.

#4: ROI For Email Marketing Is Higher Than Social Media

This may come as a shock to some of you, but OptinMonster found that email marketing outperforms social media hands down. According to Chief Marketer the ROI of email marketing is 28.5% better than for direct mail.

Still skeptical? Chief Marketer also found that email marketing outperforms other lead generation tactics, while Hubspot states that it actually improves sales. Email Monday went so far as to state that every dollar you spend on email marketing brings you $38 in return. That’s huge!

While the actual numbers may vary, everyone agrees that email marketing still has a great ROI.

#5: The Future of Email Marketing Looks Good

So what will email marketing look like in the next year or two? Here are a few helpful suggestions from Litmus you should know:

  1. Emails that allow users to interact with content without leaving the email create memorable and rich user experiences. This is a growing trend where many advertisers have seen huge ROI.
  2. Create emails with content organized into “bite size” chunks. Through social media we’ve become conditioned to absorb small bursts of information at one time.
  3. Use more story driven content. Relate to your audience through narratives that will draw them in to your brand.
  4. Send more emails that are text only. With every fighting for attention, sometimes it’s the minimalist approach that wins the day.

As technology evolves, email marketers are becoming more and more creative. Finding new ways to reach audiences of all ages.
